Able Tool Rental & Equipment Sales evolved from the original company named Southeast Wholesale & Equipment which was founded in 1982 at its current location. Edward Grennan Sr. started that business on a dirt lot with a 24’ construction trailer that was ½ office & ½ storage. The primary business was selling trailers and they were a dealer in farm equipment and tractors as well. They were also a truck rental dealer for U-Haul and another part of the business was providing outdoor storage and logistical service and dispatch of equipment for the Brinderson Corp., a large national contracting firm that was doing many of the water treatment plants here in Atlanta at the time. The company ran this way for some time.

In 1987 Edward Grennan Jr (Bud) moved back to Douglasville from Greenville South Carolina and joined his father. Father and son were the sole proprietors and the only employees. Over time, the business grew and the father and son began to build the current buildings. As the location and market demands changed – Bud expressed interest in the tool rental business; soon after there was an opportunity to purchase a small tool rental company in Hiram Georgia. The purchase of Hiram Tool Rental & Pawn was made. The inventory from the purchase was moved from Hiram to the present location and thus began the formation of Able Tool Rental… Edward Grennan Sr. and Jr. worked together to build the new business but in 1989 Edward Grennan Sr. became ill from cancer. He still remained active in the company until he could no longer work and he passed away in 1991 leaving the business to his son. Bud worked with one employee for about a year when his wife decided to join full time. Husband and wife team (Bud & Phyllis Grennan) then managed the business as primarily a tool rental store for the homeowner and contractor. They gradually grew and hired more employees. This expanded in 1997 when Able Tool Rental purchased the party rental store; Merry Times Party Rental in Marietta and entered the party rental industry thus creating Main Event Party Rental.

At this time, Able Tool Rental & Main Event Party Rental remains a family owned business of 14 people; where husband and wife Bud and Phyllis, daughter Christy, managers Don & Rafaela Gearhart; along with a team of 9 dedicated employees are operating the business.
